Stewardship is how we choose to use the things that are in our lives. We each have certain spheres where we have some rule over. Our time, money, love, our actions, and our words. How will we choose how to use the gifts that have been entrusted to us? This is determined in large part by our values. What trumps what? God, family, self, money.. what is our treasure?
Jesus said in Luke 12:29-34 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
In Matthew 12:34 he said, For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. Our mouth and our money, our words and our wallet reveal more about what's in our hearts than anything else. Why? Because we talk about and we spend our money on the things that matter most to us.
Matthew 15:7-9
You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'
MT 15: 17-20 Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' "
MT 12:33-37 "Make a tree good and its fruit will be good(doing the will of the Father mt 7:21, keeping with repentance luke 3:8, Love each other Jn 16:17), or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
JN 15:4-5,9 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing... As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.
How will we use our kingdom? Will we use our gifts and influence for the kingdom; for the king of kings? Or for our own kingdom? Or for the dark kingdom of the world.
